What are the benefits of membership?
Joining BAISC brings you membership of a community of high-quality, dedicated International Study Centres, committed to sharing expertise and best practice, and to supporting each other in combatting professional isolation. Teaching and pastoral staff from member ISCs attend the annual conference, participate in In-Service training, and organise sporting and social events for their students. Senior staff attend termly meetings where management and strategic issues are discussed. We seek to protect and enhance the concept of the ISC and are always willing to meet potential new members.
The membership fee is currently £250 per year.
How can a new member join?
The first step is to make contact with a member of the committee, using the email address above or talking to any of the full member representatives on the Contacts page. We have a Pre-Visit Checklist which we send to help an interested centre to decide if ours is a suitable association for them.
To be eligible for membership, an ISC has to have been running for two years. A representative will be invited to attend a committee meeting to give an informal presentation on their Centre. The next step is for someone from a full member ISC to make an inspection visit and then report back to the committee. Provisional membership can then be offered to the ISC, normally for a period of up to three years. Within that time the provisional member has the option of moving to full membership, by means of an inspection, either by BAISC or by the British Council under the English in Britain Accreditation Scheme.
Associate membership can be offered to ISCs providing high-quality provision but not meeting all BAISC’s criteria.
Inspection fees are chargeable.
